LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation Move Sony has taken the lid off of its long-expected motion controller wand remote by unveiling the PlayStation Move.  For just under $100 later this year you'll be able to pick up a PlayStation Move Starter Kit which include the Move wand, a PlayStation Eye camera, and a game (game title to be announced, natch).  There's even a Nintendo Wii nunchuk-like add-on called the sub-controller.  A few demos were also displayed with new titles like Move Party and Sports Champions which appears to be Sony's answer to Nintendo's Wii Sports.  Now you'll be able to play motion-controlled table tennis, gladiator sword fighting, manic haircutting, and other such staples of the motion genre on your PlayStation 3.  Yeah, I can't say I'm overwhelmed yet either.

There's better stuff in the pipeline though based on a demo of an updated LittleBigPlanet in which a player equipped with the Move can manipulate the environment to help or hinder another player controlling a standard issue Sackboy with a standard issue DualShock 3 or SixAxis controller, and then there's SOCOM 4's Move mode that doesn't require flailing around the room to play.  Sony wants that sweet casual gaming revenue, so the PS3 library will have to make room for an emphasis on family titles and casual material, but I sincerely hope that the company and its third-party developers won't forget about the core crowd and its needs.  One of my co-worker friends is terrified that this technology will overtake and consume inevitable sequels such as Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 in all kinds of new fun-killing ways, but I like to think that Sony and its partners are smarter than that.  We'll see Move-related gimmicks for all of our favorite franchises, but hopefully just in moderation.
