Following reports on Monday that developer of Aliens vs. Predator Rebellion laid off all staff at its Derby, England studio without wages for its final month or any redundancy payments, GamesIndustry.biz href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/rebellion-not-legally-obliged-to-rescue-derby-subsidiary">is reporting that the company is "not legally obliged" to pay. According to Jas Purewal, a lawyer at Olswang LLP and writer at games law website GamerLaw, as a subsidiary of Rebellion, Rebellion Derby is legally a separate company and when it runs out of money, even if its parent company is solvent, there is no obligation for its parent to rescue it.
